Three Clue is a free daily movie guessing game and film quiz. Every day brings five films, and for each one your job is to guess the movie from a single one-word clue. No screenshots, no posters, no pixelated stills: just words.
Three Clue is a daily movie guessing game built around three clues.
Get the film from the first clue and you score three points. Need a second clue and it is worth two; a third leaves you one. Fifteen points are on offer in this daily movie quiz.
The rule that makes it work is simple: no clue ever contains a word from the film's title. If the answer is The Lion King, you will never see "lion" or "king". You might see "jungle", then "stampede", then "meerkat".
Everyone in the world plays the same five films each day, so scores are directly comparable. Finish your drop, share your card, and argue about it with whoever you sent it to.
If you have been looking for a film guessing game that is not another grid of coloured tiles, this is it. Guess the film from one word for three points, or take another clue and settle for fewer.
Play the Three Clue daily movie quiz and identify five films from one-word clues.
Here are answers to common questions about this daily movie guessing game and how it works.
No. Open the page and start playing straight away.
Yes, completely. Every daily drop is free to play, with no account, no payment and nothing standing between you and the films.
Five films every day, with three clues available on each. That is fifteen points in total.
Three points if you name the film on the first clue, two points on the second, one point on the third. Nothing if you miss it or pass.
Yes. The daily drop is identical for every player in the world, which is what makes comparing scores worth doing.
At midnight UTC. There is a countdown on the end of day screen showing exactly how long you have to wait.
Every player has a streak saver. Miss a single day and it steps in, so your streak carries on. Play seven days in a row and you earn it back.
Yes. Every drop since launch is in the archive, so you can catch up on any day you missed. Archive games are scored the same way, but they do not count towards your streak or stats.
No. Your score, streak and stats are stored in your own browser. Clearing your browsing data will reset them, and your progress does not follow you between devices.
Small mistakes are accepted. Typos, missing punctuation and a dropped "The" will all still count. A different film will not, so "Batman" will not be accepted for The Dark Knight.
Sort of. If you have played a film wordle or any movie wordle game before, the daily rhythm and the shareable score card will feel familiar. The difference is that Three Clue uses written one-word clues rather than screenshots or pixelated posters, so nothing is spoiled by a picture, and you get five films a day instead of one.
"Dle" games are the family of daily puzzles inspired by Wordle, each giving you one fresh challenge a day. Three Clue is a movie dle: five films, three clues each, a new drop every midnight UTC.
